What is OPAI?

The National Professional body of Prosthetics & Orthotics was established in the year 1979 under the Indian Societies Registration Act and was named as Orthotics & Prosthetics Society of India (OPSI). Later the title was restructured as Orthotics & Prosthetics Association of India (OPAI) for the administrative conveniences. OPAI has been the platform for academic developments and to bring all Prosthetics & Orthotics Professionals together. OPAI-being the only apex body of P&O Professionals in India conducted 27 National Conferences, many CREs and Workshops. As a professional Association, OPAI endeavours to maintain high standards for professional practices in India in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics. OPAI is actively involved in standardization of Prostheses, Orthoses and Mobility devices in the Bureau of Indian Standard as the member of technical Committee. The choice of every passed out P&O Professional is OPAI and thus functioning with strength of maximum number of P&O Professionals of India.

OPAI NATIONAL CONFERENCE-2026

XXIX National Conference of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Association of India will be held from 6th to 8th February 2026 at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with Pre-Conference Workshops on 5th February 2026.

The theme of the conference is: “Enabling Lives: Integrating Prosthetics & Orthotics into the Primary Healthcare Ecosystem.” The theme suggests a shift (or push) towards integrating P&O into primary healthcare. That is important because often prosthetics & orthotics are considered specialized services; integrating them into more basic healthcare systems could increase access and impact.

This conference acts as a major gathering of P&O professionals in India: practitioners, technical experts, researchers, students. It offers an opportunity to share research, technology innovations, clinical practices, challenges etc. This prestigious event will bring together more than 700 national and international delegates, including clinicians, academicians, researchers, rehabilitation professionals, industry leaders, and students, with the aim of advancing the science and practice of prosthetics, orthotics, and assistive technology in India. The conference will feature keynote lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and a stall exhibition showcasing innovations in rehabilitation technology.
